Barzagli confirms he will retire after the current season
Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli is set to retire at the end of the season after staying at Turin for 8 years the long-serving defender is preparing to hang up his boots at the end of the season and take on a new challenge off the field
The former Italy international turns 38 next month and has decided to call time on a career that will soon take in a eighth Serie A title with the Bianconeri . In the recent interview the veteran defender said
“I thought about it long and hard, but this is the right moment to retire at the end of the season,” Barzagli told Sky Sport Italia.
“Considering my age and all the injuries I’ve had to deal with, I’m going to hang up my boots in June. I am starting the process of figuring out what to do afterwards, because I’ve dreamed of being a player since I was a little boy and now I have to consider what comes next.”
Barzagli could join Max Allegri’s Juventus staff, while he could be a director or even a television pundit and he has been at Juve since January 2011, having previously played for the likes of Ascoli, Chievo, Palermo and Wolfsburg
