The 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia got off to the perfect start for the hosts. Two goals from Denis Cheryshev and three goals from substitutes helped host Russia national team a 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia.
First goal of World Cup from Yuri Gazinsky headed them into the lead on 12 minutes. It is best header from Lury Gazinsky. They would need nothing more to take all three points which helps them move to a top Group A.
Russia lost Alan Dzagoev to a hamstring injury before the attack starting clicking, which wasn’t great for Russia.
Before half time, Cheryshev then made it 3-0 right before halftime with a glorious touch and finish in the 43rd minute:
Over the Saudi Arabian keeper, Artem Dzyuba made it 3-0 with a fine, skying header.
After 90 minute and at the beginning of added time, Cheryshev made it 4-0 with the strike with the outside of his foot. Before a free kick from Aleksandr Golovin made it 5-0:
Russian Cheryshev became the first player to come off the bench to score in an opening World Cup game. Also he became the first sub to score 2 in an opener. Dzyuba was also a sub in this one and scored, as the team got 3 goals off the bench.
It’s a good start for the hosts who are now likely just three points away from a spot in the next round. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia needs to work hard and figure out how it is going to stop anybody. But of course, if you can’t score goals, you aren’t going anywhere.
